Sustainability

We prefer to source all our materials locally and where possible will use timber from trees that have been wind blown or have been felled by local tree surgeons.

We aim to plant more trees than we use, so every Autumn seeds are collected from local trees of many varieties but particularly oak, chestnut and walnut, and they are planted to grow on.

When the young trees are between two to five years old they are found homes and then planted out to grow to maturity.

The oak in the image opposite came from just five miles away from our workshop, having been blown down. A mobile sawmill came to our site to produce planks from the trunk.

No timber goes to waste at Pawswood. All waste material, such as wood shavings, will be used for heating our workshop and also used for animal bedding.
